Make everyday Wear Red Day!
February 2 is Go Red for Women Day but, you can wear RED anyday to show our support for the fact that heart disease affects everyone, not just women! Heart disease doesn’t care if you are a man or woman, young or old, healthy or not. We all know someone who has been affected by heart disease. We all need to learn what we can do to prevent heart disease–and it’s not hard. It can be simply taking regular walks, limiting our use of the salt shaker, knowing our numbers, and so many other easy to do things.
Heart disease is a killer. We often deny the symptoms associated with a heart attack and the symptoms women experience are much different than those experienced by men.
Symptoms of a heart attack often include: chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, a cold sweat, nausea and fatigue. Women often experience jaw, upper back, shoulder or arm pain instead of the chest pain. Ideally, any pain above the naval should be checked out. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s time to call 911 to get help on the way!
Good health is a journey. It takes one step to start that journey.
