Studies show that a high dose influenza vaccine is superior to a standard dose of vaccine for preventing hospitalizations in adults 65 years and older.  Older adults have a reduced immune response to standard-dose vaccines.

The best time to get vaccinated for influenza is late September, October and November, so not now and not even in August.  Ideally, you want to vaccinated before you spend time with others at holiday time.  Check back here in early September as we will have appointment dates and times available for you to get your flu shot.  Winneshiek County Public Health will have high dose influenza vaccine for those 65+ and we will have appropriate flu vaccines for other ages.  We’ve got a shot just for you.
