Wear Teal and create an awareness for Ovarian Cancer!

Anyone born with ovaries is at risk for Ovarian Cancer.  As we age, our risk for Ovarian Cancer increases.  Additional risk factors include being overweight, having children later in life, a family history of cancer, and personal history of breast cancer.

Unfortunately the symptoms of ovarian cancer are subtle and easily confused with other ailments.  Pay close attention to your body and if something doesn’t seem right, talk with your doctor.  Track your symptoms and if they don’t go away within 2 weeks of you making changes such as getting additional rest, changing your diet, exercise, etc, contact your doctor.  Many women don’t seek help until the disease has begun to spread, but if detected at its earliest stage, a variety of treatment options are available.

Symptoms may include:

  • bloating–a swelling in your lower abdomen and clothes feeling tighter in the waist;
  • pain in your stomach or back
  • pressure in your hip or pelvic area
  • feeling full too quickly or difficulty eating–this can be a loss of appetite or feeling full after only a few bites of food;
  • changes in bathroom habits such as more or less frequent urges to go to the bathroom
