Should you get an RSV vaccine?  Who is it for?

RSV vaccine is for the Respiratory Syncytial Virus.  This is a common and contagious virus that can cause mild to severe symptoms for up to 2 weeks.  Symptoms include:  fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat, congestion, cough and fatigue.  In some individuals, RSV can lead to pneumonia and other serious complications.  RSV season begins in mid-September and lasts through mid-April.

RSV vaccine is a one-time vaccine if you are 75 years of age and older.  If you are between 50 and 74 and have a health issue that may increase your risk for RSV (such as diabetes or other respiratory issues) then, you too should get the vaccine.
